HISTORY

The Jesuit Dallas Museum was incorporated in 1986 as a nonprofit institution. While the Museum shares the campus of Jesuit College Preparatory School, it is separately chartered and governed by its own Board of Trustees. Through the vision of Clyde LeBlanc, S.J. and the generosity of Frank Ribelin ’50 a core collection of primarily contemporary Native American art was established and an inaugural collection was installed. The collection has expanded to over 600 works, the result of subsequent gifts and acquisitions of fine art. Financial and material support from private and corporate donors, as well as prominent artists, has been essential to the Museum’s continued growth.

From the beginning, the mission of the Museum has been to enhance the educational experience of students, and the broader community, through awareness, appreciation, and passion for art. Art from the collection is a creative and enjoyable way to reinforce many classroom concepts. Museum docents, who are trained volunteers, work with teachers to select artwork and design hands-on projects. Educational programs enrich a variety of academic subjects from English and History to Mathematics and Science.

Come and be inspired by artwork from 5 continents and 25 countries, spanning years of art and culture. Works by internationally recognized artists include: Yaacov Agam, Frantz Courtens, Dale Chihuly, Salvador Dali, Glenna Goodacre, R.C. Gorman, Sedrick Huckaby Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein, Jesus Moroles, Claes Oldenburg, Jose Orozco, Gary Lee Price, Diego Rivera, Robert Rauschenberg, Fritz Scholder, Miguel Zapata, and others. The collection is displayed throughout the Jesuit school campus in the historical library, information commons, hallways, and courtyards. The individual works are complemented by a collection of bronzes, and ceramics. The Jesuit Dallas Museum invites students, and visitors alike, to explore a diverse world of artistic genres and ideas.
